TomTom manufactures a lot of different automotive GPS models and the one you pick should do everything you want it to. Most come in four different varieties as in the 550 series. In that series is the XXL 550, XXL 550-T, XXL 550-M and the XXL 550-TM. What is the difference you may ask. Here is a break down on the different features.
The "T" includes Lifetime Traffic Updates.

Plus, TomTom’s traffic provider owns the entire value chain from gathering to confirming to distributing the traffic data, resulting in better quality in your traffic broadcasts. You receive non-transferable traffic data until the product's useful life expires or TomTom no longer receives traffic updates from its suppliers, whichever is shorter.
The "M" includes Lifetime Map Updates.
Roads change, but with Lifetime Map Updates you can keep your map perpetually updated. Start fresh every few months by downloading a new edition of the industry's most accurate and up-to-date map. Updated versions include verified Map Share interim updates, plus official road change updates, including those altered or added for new buildings, roads and communities. Only TomTom has the capacity to cover millions of miles and make changes required to maintain our reputation as the leader in accurate navigation. New editions of the TomTom base map are issued every three months. You receive up to four non-transferable map data updates per year until the product's useful life expires or TomTom no longer receives map updates from its suppliers, whichever is shorter.
The "TM" includes both Lifetime Traffic and Lifetime Map Updates.

Some TomTom models include LIVE Services
LIVE Service is real-time driving information that saves you time, money, and stress. Traffic, Fuel Prices, Weather, Google Local Search and more! This means that information and updates for each service - such as the latest traffic information, or weather forecasts - are sent directly to the wireless modem in your TomTom GPS device so you don't need to activate anything and don't need to connect a mobile phone to your navigation device. Just get on the road, and your device does the rest. Real-time services work right out of the box via a built-in wireless data connection. GO LIVE devices come with 3 months of access to TomTom LIVE Services. After your trial LIVE Services require a $9.95 monthly subscription that you can cancel at any time, giving 30-days of notice. Currently, TomTom LIVE Services are only available on the TomTom GO 740 LIVE.

Looking for a hotel or restaurant close to your destination or perhaps on route? Your TomTom tells you exactly which options you have and takes you straight there. You can download additional POIs using TomTom HOME desktop software. TomTom has selected the most interesting, most convenient and relevant POI sets for you by teaming up with the best content suppliers around. But that is not all. You can also download hundreds useful POI sets that other TomTom users have created, like fun shops, camp sites, car dealers, etc.
